Is my passion and the beauty of these small unique creatures can only be appreciated when one get really close. This is my "Photographic Portfolio of Insects and Spiders and other land Invertebrates" I have documented from Australia, Papua New Guinea, Brazil and Europe. I have also included selected images of reptiles and flora of which more high resolution images soon will be added to their own galleries. All images of the more than 3000 species, are available for licensed purchase and download or available as customized collections on DVD. Please contact me for further details and with your request.
This hidden and often ignored world, has been my passion from the earliest days I remember, when my Grandfather and I walked Sunday after Sunday in the woods during an all to short summer.
As now as then, I can still be amazed every time I find creatures so strange in shape and colour that they seem unreal and not of this world. The diversity in the tropical and subtropical parts of the world are unbelievable and there is no better place for me than deep in the rainforest, with my camera ready and senses tuned into this micro world.
They are the Gems of nature, hopping, flying, crawling and waking and I cannot imagine how silent and poor, the natural world would be with out them.
This alien world, where the rules of life that we take for granted often are broken down and redesigned, opens up to more questions the more knowledge you gather.
One proven fact that there are more species of invertebrates on the planet than any other group of animals, but when it comes to Insects and Spiders ways to solve problems such as reproduction, regeneration and survival in almost any part of ecosystem, one can only appreciate the genius of their evolution.
And when that is said, then one have to remember, that some of the most successful species have not changed their design for the last 65 million years or more.
Often people get afraid on my behalf when I tell that I walk alone deep in a rainforest, with no support what so ever. And often instead of asking to dangers such as, fallen branches, slippery rocks and logs that easily could cause a broken foot or leg and off cause to the most dangerous animal in the forest " People", they often say: " are you not afraid of getting bitten"??
You can imagine how they react when I say I love walk in the forest at night, that´s when all the good things come out.
But I have to say that I have never had a bite or a sting ( except from bees and Mosquitoes ) in all the years I have photographed Insects, Spiders and other invertebrates. The golden rule is never touch or move species from their naturan environment, and be patient then you get the shot..
I can pride myself to know that I hold in my photographic library more than 3700 species of Insects, Spiders, Scorpions, Millipedes, Centipedes and a like. The pictures have been collected over a period of 10 years. Early pictures are not the same quality as later ones but they represent some very interesting species especially from Indonesia. Some countries and areas have been revisited but others are lost forever, destroyed by human hand.
But still new species are found every year, and I am proud and happy to know that I have found more than 40 new species of Insects, Spiders and Tarantulas, never before described.
Further more I hope that my pictures and my passion for this group of animals will inspire others to go out and explore what is to be found, and thereby play a role in conserving the last and remaining of our tropical and old growth forest before all is logged and burned, and forever lost to this world.
